My latest obsession = finger knitting.
Just in time to make summery bracelets.

Bumped a couple of weeks ago in a store into a Zpagetti ball.
And one thing leading to another I ended up at Vanessa's tutorial for finger jersey knitted bracelets. Watch her video at the bottom.
Reg found this tutorial on finger knitting and being the slow learner that I am, I had to get helped by this one in French.
The technique/result varies slightly provided you loop back above all your fingers or swirve back between fingers.

- head pieces with longer ties.
- mixing differents fabrics.
- not ending up not chocking my fingers with far too tight a noose :-)

Each perfume is inspired by a city. Good concept if you ask me. Although I would probably use it as a room fragrance rather.

Here is my working palette for the new house.
Walls will be white but they may be some grey, very light sage/mint green or egg shell where darker shade are needed.

Anyone who has ever tried using the colours between fuschia and blue will agree.
Just like when you shop for Alliums. They always end up having a tint quite different from the picture.
Screens and cameras just never seem to be able to tame them. So we'll pretend the first two are raspberry/burgundy and dark fuschia....(second swatch looks like the 2011 Pantone Honeysuckle but they is not what I was going for, so imagine something darker, a tad pinker than raspberry.)
Am not sure about the two last ones. Maybe a very dark purple rather than this odd indigo.

By the way, you know the easy colours math:
Colour+ white = fader shade of the colour
Colour+ water (to lessen total amount of pigment) = desaturate version of that colour (less concentrated)
Colour + its complementary colour = darker i.e. intensified shade of the colour
Colour+black = 'dirty' version of the same colour.

...through cement tiles for the entry- and hallway in case we can't salvage the terrazzo that may still be hiding underneath the present dated and used tiles.

Autumn from De Tegel has got to be my favorite but would fit the 1930s style of the house: So we'll probaby go for something more geometrical (although Jugendstil) like these from Castelo:
The typical 30s style was more checker board pattern of 2 plain 10x10 tiles ranging from gray to brown-beige tones. But too much of a strecht from what we like...
I don't mind respecting some historical logic (that's why we wanted to go for tiles in the first place rather than the super sleek dark slate tiles you would see everywhere on this planet at the moment) but will not lay on the floor right before our eyes something I'd find depressing every day.

A fun thing to do on De Tegel website is to make your own colour combination on their patterns...I promise you won't be able to resist them.

[EDIT] switching to something else : I won't post pix of the round paper lantern...total fail according to me...

(big hésitation pour le couloir...le style de la maison est années 30...donc motif géométrique sans doute)

Sphere metal lanterns are everywhere right now in the NL.
While I must say I always tend not to like what's in...just because it's in...well, Zenza makes some gorgeous ones.
Shop Terrain also has very nice ones.
Here is my attempt with the help of my Big Bite puncher at doing something quite less expensive but inspired by it with a €2.99 IKEA rice paper lantern...

We'll see how it turns out. As you can see, this is only the trial stage (on postcard bags).
My first intention was to try eyelet patterns like here or here but they seem too girly to me. Hence a more 'organic', ethnic, whateveryoucallic pattern.

And since we're at it, meet my new HEMA polka dot iron board cover.

Would almost make me like ironing. 'Almost' says it all :-(

here is the after :
not totally finished but fully painted and already hosting one of the little wood furniture embellishment we found on the street the other day (along with the pair of garden director chairs -you can see one behind). yeeaaah, heavy recycling...

and 'way before' refers to the house warming decoration I'm already thinking about....
and if you knew me, you wouldn't say it is a bit premature. Slow cooker....
the plan is to cut 10cm/3in wide strips of crepe paper and hang them from the ceiling or around doors.
poor sketch but it roughly give the feel. The upper peach shade is less orangy than on the picture.
total cost, less then 7 euros!

(tout blanc finalement pour le (faux) tiroir d'imprimeur et déjà une bricole dedans...un ornement de meuble trouvé ds la rue...on est cheap ou on ne l'est pas...et en parlant de cheap : pour moins de € 7, voilà quelque peu en avance la déco de notre crémaillère...ouaip, à peine en avance...on a pas encore achetée la maison :-) mais bon, quelques jours de soleil d'affilée, même un passage au dessus des 10 degrés et on se croît en été - presque!)

Still in transit accomodation, thus producing small projects but mostly soaking in inspiration. Rasberry has been a main colour in my (Xmas) deco recently. But it appears sometimes tricky to render in photograph. So from raspberry I'll slightly shift (transit?) towards burgundy and some adorable things by Riverdale I saw at De Bosrand my favorite plant nursery/garden center (cute cyclamen, isn't it?) and at Melchior Interieurs.

PS: Pearl River for such lanterns in the US.

Well, today decided be be that kind of day where the weather forces you to change all your plans : lunch and morning meeting cancelled, still wondering how to swim throught the snow that keep on piling since this morning...since cycling, driving or walking seems out question and trams are stopped and buses delayed...
But motivation is there. First non cancelled pm appointment is with our potential realtor and second a house visit!

Moving in, means often rediscovering your furniture and stuff after months - sometimes years ;-)- after packing them.
While I'm already longing (only couple of months to go girl!) for our two IKEA Torsbys which you have seen in this previous post and will soon be sailing somewhere over the Atlantic, I bumped into this beauty....

Hmm should be too difficult to create with a neutral sideboard, a handy hand and few wood boards. And while I was strolling in the cabinet aisle, here are few other suggestions :

Okay the name sounds like a pseudo cool mini car.... and is less ear pleasing than its PC equivalent (the Silhouette) but my Xyron is a mighty tool. If you're a little computer savy that is... Here is what I've been starting working on lately. The end product should be a snail mail home made card. No risk of ruining the surprise though...except from Réré, my dear partner in crime, no one who will receive it knows about this blog! And I must say I quite like this undercover feel! Theme : the move, our next destination (the NL!!!!), a new home, a new address... Paper : Anna Griffin

Past weekend rhymed with heavy sawing. Reusing tree triming. Totally inspired from the bulbs Anthro used to carry.
I agree. Seriously copying....but the 2 bulbs only cost us a mere $8....
The leftover made cute votive holders (couldn't help grinning this morning when I got Marie-Claire Maison newsletter and saw these - and their price!!!!)

For being one limited in terms of practical skills, I tend to commission people (Réré can testify...she is currently busy with something for me...and probably also pinning I don't know what on a voodoo puppet with my hair...) to do, sew, knit, build things.
And this flexible side table from & Tradition that Emma showed on her blog is the next thing I have my eyes on.

(des suggestions de couleur pour repeindre la chaise en bois? elle est pour l'instant dans les tons avoisinants mais j'aimerais bien quelque chose entre œuf de rouge gorge (sais pas le nom de cette teinte en français...honte sur moi) et vert menthe.
La pomme, c'est une participation à un concours du Printemps néerlandais, De Bijenkorf.
L'élan en cuir provient de Jackson Hole, Wyoming et le long porte bougie est un vieux moule à sucre)

Finally, cooler days have arrived. upper twenties-lower thirties Celsius during day, a new autumn light and time to wear summer layers and more pastel versions of summer shades. Fuschias turn into equally joyful but slightly turned down pinks, flips flops give way to sandals and jeans (jeans!!! unthinkables just two weeks ago) To celebrate this, what a better example than my recent birthday gift (remember the Anthro mail?).... Love the feminine side from the gold and strass mixed with the vintage toy like pastels.

(Ah l'automne!!! ici, c'est encore chaud chaud chaud mais moins humide. La lumière étant moins aveuglante, on troque donc les couleurs éclatantes pour des tons aussi estivaux mais plus doux, cela aide à conserver une impression de teint bronzé..les tongs cèdent la place à des sandales et des jeans (des jeans!!!! impensables il y a seulement deux semaines!!!!) Un bon exemple mon cadeau d'anniv mélangeant féminité (brillants +doré) et des pastels qui me rappellent des jouets d'enfance....)

'Tis (almost) the season to be jolly! Yes, am again/already in the Xmas decor mood.
Last year I missed these gorgeous bulbs from West Elm.
The full story is : a lady took all of them in the store while I was there wanting to buy just one ($9 per bulb being somewhat over my budget).
But no, she wouldn't even leave one for me, and bought the whole 29 they had. She came from overseas, blablabla.
Anyway, karma's a b---, girl. Have some broke on the plane on your way back? hmmm, too bad, cause I will be able to get mine this year. And even if you paid me, I wouldn't get you new ones. Help yourself, you're so good at it, dear.

Anyway, West Elm has them back!!! Yeahhhh!

Not that anybody particularly cares, but I as said we're almost moving. This however changes everything here.
It means : 1. no crafting in December...right before Xmas......
2. bad need to get rid of leftover paint.

End result : I'm starting/finishing now little Xmas decor I'll keep with us. Here using oak branches and acorns fallen from our Hawthorne oak (courtesy of Tropical Storm Hermine/ it's hurricane season here!) and bottom of paint pots.
Let's see how it turns out!

(Je me répète : on déménage bientôt -pas que cela intéresse gd monde...
mais cela signifie pas de bricolage en Décembre, juste avant Noël :-( et un besoin impératif de vider les fonds de pots de peinture...

Another cheapo paint project I have finished...just two months ago.....and I hadn't posted.
Total cost : $2!

okay, $3 if I add one buck for a Dollar Store painter plastic blanket to keep my garage floor clean while painting....
The shutters were doors from a long gone wetbar (before we bought the house) and the paint an 'oops' (=returned yet new) pot from Lowes... Before :

(deux dol, allez trois en comptant la bâche en plastique pour peindre proprement dans notre garage ces portes de 'wetbar' qui attendaient patiemment leur comeback magistral sous forme de tête de lit...les frais colossaux sont pour un pot tout neuf de peinture soldée (retournée par un client ayant ss doute changé d'avis chez Lowes...)

Remember few winters ago how Jessica from WIW rocked her purple suede (Payless) boots and matching tights? (Sorry, I couldn't find the picture)
I have been looking since then for mid high heel suede shoes. I have also been looking for mid high heel wedges for a while...well, it seems I have finally found this rare bird combined in one! The purple version seems yummy too! And no, I don't need nor like those huge heels nobody kows how to walk with. Keep your painful feet and back, and your ridiculous clumsy bended knee walk. I'll keep my style. :-)

Here at OnYourBikeSunshine, we looooooooove anything resembling printer trays, little wooden houses, old crates, in other words a small shelving system perfectly displaying your cutest (kitschest?) finds.

Few days ago, Decor8 wrote this post on Shannon Fricke's scrumptious wallpaper cabinet.

About the same time, HausMaus showed us her flea market finds and Jane Schouten's revamped wooden houses.

I had long been looking for something to welcome my tiny black elephants and had found a month ago a plain black square comparted tray.
After almost venturing painting it white or a very light mint green (which could have given an interesting contrast with the deep black...), meaning I would probably have need at least three coats of paint... I decided to keep it black for the time being (matching the elephants) and opted for lighter shades as background. a mix of paint swatches and scrapbook paper.

Just back after another visit of our home...and finally able to show you a bit of my closet. Tieing my scarves on an unsued walking closet rod and by doing so, creating a closed area behind to hide luggage....Clever, isn't it? Not from me....I got the idea from TjMaxx.
Makes me think I would really like to know what people think of you by just looking at your clothes...I have recently realized I own scarves and cardigans in approximately all the colours of the rainbow....

Another good idea I could use right now is a 'find-me-right-now-that-b***dy-thing device'. You know, the kind of remote that finds you whatever it is you have lost in your home...a camera charger for instance.... Feel free to pattern it, you who will make it....btw I'll probably borrow your prototype....

time flies

This last couple of months - this year- has zipped by and I can't believe it is already time for us to put the house on the market and fly back accross the Atlantic.
Good thing though, the house is super tidy and that gives me a chance to get good snapshots. that is...when I get a hold on the camera charger.....

Just when I'm done, the last coat is totally dry, here comes the long awaited rain in my corner of the planet...(carefull what you wish for) Meaning I have very little light to work with but wanted to show you the result of my trash rescue... I'm not really sure what the purpose of the table is...coffee table? side table next to a couch or bed side table? I will use it as the latter.
